The man who walked around the world

Satish Kumar is a wonderful Indian philosopher and a person I admire very much, and so my good friend Naomi, knowing how inspired I am by this lovely man, and being something of a Google detective herself, discovered that he was giving a talk at the RIBA building in London on Tuesday and bought us tickets to kick off my birthday celebrations (it is not until Spring Equinox, March 21st but I do like to spread it out a bit).

I have long been interested in Jainism. I spent a rather wonderful couple of days at Gomateshwara in Sharavanbelgola a few years ago. I have been in India and seen Jain monks sweeping the floor before walking so as not to kill ants. I like this extreme demonstration of equality and peace. Satish Kumar was once a Jain monk and to me epitomises everything good and true - a totally non-violent way of life, knowing that every living thing is connected to each other and all are equally important in the perfect balance of life. And knowing how important it is to respect this and keep (or restore) the perfect balance of life. He has walked around the world, without money, for peace, which reminds me that absolutely anything is possible if you have faith and intention. I find him very inspiring and I like to be inspired.

He spoke with a lovely calm energy. He spoke about truth and balance and Universal Law. Everything I love. He had a very lovely calm and humble energy about him. He was a real pleasure to listen to. I am so, so glad that we went.

Here are some links about the great man. They can tell you about him far better than I:

He's also the editor of Resurgence Magazine, which is well worth checking out:

I feel so blessed to have lovely friends.

Love the titles of his books - His autobiography, No Destination, & You Are, Therefore I Am – A Declaration of Dependence.

With titles like that why write anything at all between the covers?

Enjoying your blog.
